Parallax Scrolling and Silverback
May 8, 2008
I just saw the most amazing effect created with CSS on the web the other day. I figured I should share it with everyone. It is an effect called parallax scrolling, which is essentially creating the illusion of depth using 2D graphics by moving background images slower than foreground images. I will assume that most of you know CSS works like layers similar to Photoshop. As such, you can style your website to create the effect quite easily.
I am new to CSS and I certainly did not consider this to be possible. I was definitely amazed and very excited at this finding. Dennis sent me a link to Think Vitamin where I learned about this. He is incredibly fantastic. Always sending me wonderfully interesting information sources. Think Vitamin is a blog where Mr. Paul Annett posted a wonderful “How To” on parallax scrolling. I definitely suggest giving it a read especially to my friends in the web design industry. To see an example of parallax scrolling go to Silverbackapp.
