Recycled Material Playground

June 15, 2008

While we were in Anacortes, Washington visiting family we were taken to a park that had a playground recently built by residents with recycled materials. I thought this was absolutely amazing and inspiring. Dennis’ father actually worked on it with quite a few friends and fellow towns people. He let us know that they started the project on a Monday or Tuesday and finished on Sunday of the same week. Dennis and I were very surprised. The playground looked fabulous.

I couldn’t believe it was created with recycled products. So many kids were playing on it having a wonderful time. The playground had so many compartments and different fun games to play I think they would wipe themselves out before they ever got bored. My favorite part were the murals all over the structure, and the musical instruments built into different areas of the playground. Oh, they had a little stage where they could put on puppet shows as well.

I suppose my actual favorite part of this whole project was that it was community funded and built, and that the structure was created with recycled materials. What a fabulous way of re-using unwanted materials.
